From work:

New article I found.

My sister’s website.

Well, I start work tommorow at Image One. I really can’t wait. Nothing makes me feel better than working since I actually use skills I’m good at. I should pack so I can go home tommorow for work (my parent’s home is 5 minutes away, whereas my apartment is an hour).

Because I haven’t been online in almost 11 days, besides looking at my plants grow outside, I had a chance to read some literature.

First I read the entirity of Hugo Winners, edited by Isaac Asimov and is a compilation of all the Hugo (Science fiction medal) winners frm 1950 to 1970 or so. They are awarded mostly to short stories.

Favorite stories:

The Star, by Arthur C Clarke

Flowers for Algernon, Daniel Keys

I have no Mouth and I must Scream, Harlan Ellison

I’ll talk about those later.

I also read Plainsong, by Kent Haruf, a National Book Award Finalist. My sister said it’s a book that is trying too hard, but I found is pretty enjoyable. The prose is underrefined, using similar punctuation to Angela’s Ashes, and using lots of run on sentences and stuttering stops. The strength isn’t in the wordplay, but rather the interactions between people using conversations as tools for characterizations. There isn’t really much of a plot, it’s actually rather Pulp Fictionesque in a way.

Yay! Finally back online. The COX cable company came and installed the cable modem. I’m finally online and finally back to blogging.

This is probably my last chance to post in a couple of days, so I’ll post about my general tiredness stemming from packing up. Packing is slow, arduous work, because you keep on running into problems when you discover something you haven’t thought about in ages and then you sit there reminiscing about that particular moment.

Anyhow, toodles.

I’m kind of angry because blogger keeps losing my text, but in other news, I fininshed my last final at 9:15 today. I ran out, and then was prompty amazed by the display of gorgeous sunshine and a slight breeze. A wiff of lavander perfume was wafting through as a gaggle of five beutifully dressed– in other words, not much dressed– asian girls walked past chatting about biology. Biology indeed.

I’m moving out tommorow, and going up to the great norcal with James, where i shall experience the magic of Metropolis.

A Rather Caustic Re-Analysis of my Kalabarian Philosophy Name Analysis

- The name of Dave creates a quick, analytical, and clever mind; you are creative, versatile, original, and independent.

I make hasty decisions and I’m really, really weird. I’m so random people don’t understand me.

- You have large ambitions, and it is difficult for you to be tolerant and understanding of those who desire less in life or who are more slow and methodical by nature.

I want to be a millionaire. I hate stupid people.

- Patience is not your forte. You do, however, have leadership ability and would never be happy in a subservient position.

I can’t wait 10 minutes to go to the bathroom. I have to go now. And don’t tell me I can’t go to the bathroom right now.

- You are ambitious and aggressive by nature. You would be happiest in positions where you are free to express individually and creatively and where opportunities are not restricted; you desire freedom, and do not tolerate being possessed by others.

Don’t tell me when my work looks stupid. I don’t like critcism. No, I can’t take a joke.

- You appreciate change and travel, and the opportunity to meet and mix with others, and to influence them with your creative ideas.

I’d definately want to influence some Hawaian girls with my creative ideas.

- You are very self-confident and feel you can accomplish anything you set out to do, and you can, although, this name does not allow proper completion of undertakings, and forced changes cause financial losses and bitter experiences.

Shit, no wonder i have so much in credit card debt.

- This name also creates caustic expression and moods which prevent harmony and happiness in close association. When under strain, tension could affect the stomach and solar plexus. There is a tendency for you to worry.

If you are stupid, you WILL nauseate me. Then I’ll worry whether you are contagious.

I thought I was getting better, but when I woke up today at 3:00 pm I had the worst coughing ever which prompty gave me a headache. Ouch.

Book I wish I had.

Break from studying…

I checked my referral logs recently and it turns out I have a bunch of hits from other blogs I didn’t know about, so I checked them out and It seems they are in a different language altogether. I hope it’s positive.

HYPER . SPEED . WEBLOG

C:\Blah Blah Blog

Both of them seem really interesting from the pictures and layout and the one on top looks like a model. Mmmm…. Exotic…

Well, I’m officially sick, my head hurts and my throat is raggedy from the “Everything” party, which had so much potential but succumbed to low turnout.

In other news, I had a particularly vivid, if mundane, dream. I went to my ICS 52 class, and I picked up my report. I got a 27 out of 30, and on the comments section, the TA wrote, “You lost 3 points because you didn’t explain the client server archictecture well enough.”

Ok, I am officially a very boring person.

Very, Very Clever

it’s so hard IMing an old friend or a friend you are not sure of anymore. the same goes for girls. you sit there, you type something innocuous, then you erase the sentences, then end up closing the window, and nothing gets said. because something innocuous like “hi”, could lead to something else. and that something else i’m not sure i want to go. even if i know that that’s where i’m going to go anyway.

i guess it’s the 21st century version of the ol’ phone call nervousness.

My yearnings of late have been vague. An end to all the madness, a return to quietness, a happy life with someone.

guess what we want and what we have are diametrically at an ends.

a total pressure of finals, friends, and everything else all combining together is making my stomach nauseated and my general demeanor cranky.

ciao

Storytime

In a biology class, the professor was discussing the

high glucose levels found in semen.

A female freshman raised her hand and asked, “If I

understand, you’re saying there is a lot of glucose, as in

sugar, in semen?”

“That’s correct,” responded the professor, going on

to add statistical info.

Raising her hand again, she asked, “Then why doesn’t

it taste sweet?

After a stunned silence, the whole class burst out

laughing. The poor girl’s face turned bright red, and as she

realized exactly what she had inadvertently said (or rather

implied), she picked up her books without a word and walked

out of class, never to return. However, as she was going out

the door, the professor’s reply was classic.

Totally straight-faced he answered her question.

“It doesn’t taste sweet because the taste buds for

sweetness are on the tip of your tongue and not the back of

your throat. Have a good day.”

Recent people I have met through James:

If a person’s personality can be deciphered from the friends that he keeps, then I must add another notch to my respect rating to James.

James who met Paul at One Love, and whom I was briefly introduced to (but forgot), reintroduced himself to me at How Sweet It is. I found out he lived merely 300 feet away, so I invited him to go to Fun Haus with me. I sensed a genuine, likable person, honest with his feelings, empatic, with plenty of talents such as rollerblading, music, and very knowledgable about things in general. So I clicked with him and I consider him a good friend.

Through James I met Lynn, who I found out played basketball, so I played with her. At first I thought she was a shy thuggette, with her ghetto accent, and that she could kick my ass, but I found out she’s an excellent writer and an awesome poet (but still can kick my ass). Definately more to her than meets the eye. She is also a fast learner when it comes to dancing and has a lot of natural talent and rhythm.

Through James I also met Macy, who is an incredibly modest person with plenty of talent. She is incredibly observant and from the few times I met her, she has a strong logical mind coupled with great empathy and passion. She is not stingy with her compliments, but she is self-effacing about her own talents. A sweet, genuinely nice person, highly articulate and expressionate. I have taken to helping her learn more about the art of graphics design, since she seems so genuinely interested, and she actually listens to me and then makes appropriate responses back.

Through James I met Waylan. A few short words may touch upon his personality: intelligent, articulate, honest, self-critical, self-effacing, observant, highly-logical, reliable, and romantic. He is a person to be counted on and trusted. I can sense that from the way he carries himself. He is someone I’d want to entrust the safety of a relative to.

i was walking to class to turn in my computer science paper when i stopped to tie my shoe and fell asleep for a few minutes. i’m lucky in that i left early otherwise i would have been late. also, it’s lucky that i was in the middle of aldrich park and not in some crowded intersection, now that would have been muy embarassing.

okay, i officially need sleep now.

dave, you are the weakest link, good night.
